Red tea: Even better for you than green tea?

We've all heard about the health benefits of green tea for everything from fighting cancer to helping your heart, but is there a tea with more antioxidants and health benefits than green tea? The answer is yes, and it is red tea.
It’s also called Rooibos (roo-ee-bosh), which means red bush. It’s delicious, caffeine-free and super high in antioxidants. Oh, and kids love it! The tea appears red in the cup, and is fragrant to the nose and pleasing to the palate. It is indigenous to the Western Cape of South Africa. The rooibos shrubs are long with needle-shaped leaves that turn red upon fermentation. A growing body of research suggests that the health benefits of rooibos may be quite broad. Rich in the super-antioxidant compound quercetin, titan among the antioxidants, quercetin imparts benefits to the heart, helps to reduce the risk of various types of cancers, fights viruses and is significantly anti-inflammatory, meaning that it helps to reduce the risk of many types of health disorders.

Rooibos (Red) tea hasn't made its way to most grocery store shelves yet. One website that has a plentiful stock of not only Rooibos tea, but every tea and tea combination imaginable is Teavana.com. They have Apple Lemon Pomegranate Rooibos Tea, Ginseng Vitality Rooibos Tea (this one will definitely give you some energy!), and Blueberry Bliss Rooibos Tea. They also have a useful search feature that allows you to refine your search by whom you are shopping for and find the best item for that person, examples being "Occasional tea drinker", "Health nut" and "New tea drinker." They currently are offering $10 off any $50 or more purchase by using promo code 10OFF50. Drink to health and savings!
